JEDEC Publishes GDDR7 Graphics Memory Standard, Yeah?
Hey, the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association, you know, a worldwide absolute boss in making standards for the microelectronics world, has just kind of decided to show us all a path breaking new memory standard: JESD239 Graphics Double Data Rate (GDDR7) SGRAM. This dude right here is all ready to shake up the memory performance in graphics, gaming. And, don’t you forget the AI applications!
JESD239 GDDR7 Key Elements — But Let’s not Get Ahead of Ourselves:
Superpowered Bandwidth: The JESD239 GDDR7 offers up double the bandwidth, compared to it’s pre-successor, the GDDR6? With speeds considering to reach up to 192 GB per second per thingy. Can you believe it! It handles the non-stop increasing need for memory bandwidth in all sorts of domains.
Pulse Amplitude Modulation, that’s PAM by the way: JESD239 GDDR7 is the one and only JEDEC standard DRAM that using the PAM3 interface for those oh so high frequency operations. What this means? Well, PAM3, it will be getting improvement to the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and also raises energy efficiency. By sending 3 bits over 2 cycles using levels like +1, 0, and even -1), PAM3 far beats, the usual NRZ (non-return-to-zero) interface which transmits only 2 bits over 2 cycles. This is deep guys!
